"Thou art called to labor in my vineyard, and to build up my church, and to bring forth Zion, that it may rejoice upon the hills and flourish. Behold, verily, verily, I say unto thee, thou art not called to go into the eastern countries, but thou art called to go to the Ohio. And inasmuch as my people shall assemble themselves at the Ohio, I have kept in store a blessing such as is not known among the children of men, and it shall be poured forth upon their heads. And from thence men shall go forth into all nations. Wherefore, go forth, crying with a loud voice saying: The kingdom of heavn is at hand: crying: Hosanna! Blessed be the name of the Most High God. Go forth baptizing with water, preparing the way before my face for the time of my coming." --Doctrine and Covenants 39: 13-15, 19-20

March 19, 2012

Hi Mom and Dad,
Hope you both had a great time in Idaho this weekend. How is the
family up there? Anything new happening with them? Well that's just too
bad that you were not able to send a card, I would have loved one. And
it's fine if you don't make a st. patty's day meal, you can just wait till
I get home to make it.
Well our week was pretty short in our area we
didn't get home until Thursday morning so we were not able to do to
much in Bryan. Sandusky is very cool and fun. So I was able to see
cedar point... that's the theme park I was talking about.  I took a few
pictures and it was right next to the lake.  It has been like
perfect weather here and it was a great week to just walk around so
that is what we did. So I was in Sandusky because we had a conference
for all the leaders of the mission.   Elder Moffett is a district
leader so I had to go to Sandusky so I wouldn't be alone. Elder
Randell is the Elder I served with.  He is from the Provo area and went to
BYU before he came out but we get along really well.
So we were not able to tract too much this week so no new
investigators. We did do a lot of service though so I am still
recovering from that. Since Elder Moffett has a bad back, I have to do
all the heavy lifting so my back doesn't feel great but I'm doing good
haha. We will find new people this upcoming week; I know we will. I am
still enjoying it so much out here and I think I will continue to for
a long time. Oh so Elder Moffett is going home in about three
weeks-- it's pretty crazy.  Then i will have a new companion.
Well I love you all and hope you had a great week.

Hi Mom and Dad,
First of all HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM!!! I hope you got my letter; I sent it
on Thursday last week.
Dad, I forgive you for not writing the past few weeks and I hope you
enjoy the second job of selling pencils sounds like it will bring a
lot of profit to the family.  I have been trying to work as hard as I
can so I hope that i am doing good. It's good to hear that everything
went well with Grandmas' service. I am glad that both of you were able
to raise me. Now that I look back on it, you both taught me so much and I
am so thankful for it. You are both great parents.
Haha Bishop Wray... hmm it's got a good ring to it. Tell Uncle Grover congrats
for me and I hope that they are doing good up there. He will do
great; it's a perfect calling for him haha.
Oh so this week ill be in Sandusky, Ohio for the first part of the week.
I am pretty excited I get to work with one of the Elders I came out with.  Sandusky is a
cool place. It has one of the best theme parks in the USA so I'm pretty
excited to see it even though I can't get near it or doing anything
with it haha.  The weather here has been amazing, except the bees
and the bugs are already beginning to come back.
So far this past week,  we have just been tracting for new people to teach,
but not too much teaching this week. It's been a good week nonetheless.
Well love you all so much and hope you have a great week and
enjoy Idaho.   I so wish I could see some mountains right now. haha Love
you all

Hello Mom and Dad,
It has been a good week this past week, but not too many lessons. We are
just still trying to find more people to teach at the moment. So still,
of course, we are tracting but not tons like before. This week was
Stake Conference so we went down to Findlay and that was pretty fun.
I loved the speakers.  President and Sister Sorensen both spoke and
they were great. So nothing happened with tornados in our area, the
whole mission was under a watch but it was all in southern part of
Ohio where anything happened; we just got rain. We have plans though
in case a tornado happens so don't worry, we are safe.  We have been
told that Bryan hasn't had a tornado touchdown here in a very long
time, it's one of the low lying cities in the area. Oh, also they are
right at the moment testing the sirens and they are very loud and
annoying.
Not to much happened this week.  We taught some lessons but that is it.
The Lemons are doing great and they love it.  They actually are now
covering two areas in the mission and they are two of the biggest ones
too. Their call is mostly, from what I understand, to work with less actives
and to retain new converts, but they can also teach investigators.
They are basically like the elders but they don't have to tract. They
love there calling though and they are amazing. They are actually
teaching an investigator right now.  It's a part-member family and they
seem to be progressing too so that is great.
It's great to hear that the service went well and they enjoyed it and
it's great that so many were there at the service. It's great to hear
about the Fam,
I hope Alexa will be ok. And PARIS-- I want to go there haha.
Eric doesn't speak french and he hates the french; he cant go
there haha. That's too bad for Jesse the ACT was a long boring test that I
did not enjoy.  I hope he has fun with that haha.
Well that's pretty much been my week nothing too exciting other than the
tornado warnings. I love and miss you all and hope you have a great
week.

February 28, 2012

Hello Mom and Dad,
I am just doing fantastic out here in the boonies of Ohio haha. I love
it out here, but sadly we haven't had any snow this whole year.
This has been the warmest winter I have ever seen in my life that is
for sure. So, yes, we are getting a new president his name is Micheal L. Villenga
from Clinton Utah, and I don't know too much else.  I do know that they will
be sending their son out on a mission the day they come to Cleveland
and they will also have their daughter living with them but that is
about it.  Dad, if you really want to take a picture of your truck, you can, but that
is probably why I am so far away from Cleveland right now haha.

So we are now teaching a lot of new people and we are very excited
about it. We have three families and a couple of individuals that we found
by our personal finding.  The Spanish investigator was referred by
his sister and we taught them one lesson so far and we are trying to
get back over there this Thursday. So far we have had a very
successful week and it has been great.

So i hope Grandma's service goes well and I am sure it will.
I hope that you know you and dad have both been amazing examples to me.

So on p-days out in Bryan we do.... NOTHING!!! YAY.. we are so far
away from any missionaries that we just clean and sleep and that's
about it.  There truly is not to much to see out in the plains.
Just some flat land and dead stuff because its winter haha. But I'll
try my best to get some good pictures out here. I'll try to send some
picture soon maybe today I'll find out.

So how is the family doing? I haven't heard too much other than Alyssa
moving. Anything new happening? Well, I love you all and it's great to
hear from you,
Love

Hey Mom and Dad,
I have been doing great and have been enjoying the new area a lot.
Well Bryan, Ohio has taken me to many different places. So far, since I
have been here, I have been to Toledo, Findlay and Bowling Green, but
those are not in our area, we just went there on p day.  There are a
lot of small towns in this area, Bryan is usually where we are but we
have gone to Defience and Montpilliar as well.  It’s a really
interesting area.  There is a lot of farming that is for sure.   There
are a lot of Menonites here but they are not too exciting; they are
just like normal people pretty much, no horse and buggy’s.  So far we
have taught a few Spanish speaking people and we are going to teach one on
Thursday who seems very interested.
It’s good to hear that you are doing a lot for Grandmas funeral and I’m
glad you are doing well through this time.  I am excited that you get
to do the work for her and I hope that she will accept it as well.   I
know Grandpa has and I really hope that she will too.
Well you did tell me about Alyssa and Kent but I never really responded
but it’s great to hear about that from them.  I hope she enjoys that
area of Utah.  haha it’s pretty hot and dry... But she needs to stay out
there for those two years so when I get back I can go hiking over in
that area and have a reason to drive over there haha.
Well thank you all for what you have done for me.  I don't know if I
have ever thanked you for not letting me fall away and always loving
me. I don't know how much I can thank you Mom and Dad but I do hope
that you know I love you and I always will. Your influences in my life
helped me through so much and I never noticed until I got out here.   I
love you both and thank you so much.
I was reading about a week ago and I just wanted to share something that I was able to notice.
In Enos it talks about him not following the ways of his father, but
because of what his father had taught him, he remembered the ways of
his father and after he finally wanted to know for himself and humble
himself, he came back to the ways of the Lord.   I hope you know that
what you have taught all of your kids; they will always remember and
in time and maybe when they notice that something is missing in their
lives, they will return.  Love you all and I hope you have a great week.
Love,
Elder Ryan Furtney
