"Thou art called to labor in my vineyard, and to build up my church, and to bring forth Zion, that it may rejoice upon the hills and flourish. Behold, verily, verily, I say unto thee, thou art not called to go into the eastern countries, but thou art called to go to the Ohio. And inasmuch as my people shall assemble themselves at the Ohio, I have kept in store a blessing such as is not known among the children of men, and it shall be poured forth upon their heads. And from thence men shall go forth into all nations. Wherefore, go forth, crying with a loud voice saying: The kingdom of heavn is at hand: crying: Hosanna! Blessed be the name of the Most High God. Go forth baptizing with water, preparing the way before my face for the time of my coming." --Doctrine and Covenants 39: 13-15, 19-20

Hey Mom and Dad,
The week went well. We didn't have to do much tracting as we usually have so that was nice. If you couldn't already tell. I really do not like tracting haha. But it was a good week we found some people to teach but we really just started and probably won't see them tons throughout the upcoming week because of Christmas. We just got a pretty nice storm this weekend and now it is all gone and we are back to rain again haha. Well that is cool that Jordan is about to leave luckily he gets to spend Christmas with his family. Well I also hope that you do great on your talk.  I am excited to hear how it goes. So I won't get to call you before Christmas.  So I need Ari's Skype account to call and I need to know when you will be ready for me to call. We have a place where we will be skyping together so if you can just tell me when it's good to call you. It's ok that the box won't be here tell Wednesday I will be fine. Well I love you all and I will talk to you on Sunday. Love you so much and I am excited to see you all.

Hi mom and dad,
Things are going good here and I do have a new companion his name is Elder Davies and he is from Pocatello, Idaho. He actually is from the same stake as Elder Trammell. Also Elder Stone is now a zone leader and he is now serving with Elder Trammell so i thought that was pretty funny. Oh so I am in our ward choir now because my new companion is a singer so I have to learn how to sing before Christmas haha. That is cool that Jordyn is back, I didn't know it was so soon. Well the only thing I would say is Focus on Member Missionary Work. President Hinckley once said "There is no point in missionary work without the members help" or something to that effect haha. But really if you take my area right now so far every single one of the recent converts is now less active because none of the members supported them well enough, Also, now that our members are not thinking of missionary work, nothing is happening, We barely teach and all we do is tract. Tracting is just a way to show that we are diligent but nothing rarely comes from it. If members are not trying to spread the gospel or help missionaries, then their ward or stake will not grow... And it sounds like I am just making my ward sound terrible. They are a great ward and i love them, but they need to learn how to do missionary work and not be afraid to do it. Member missionary work is everything in missionary work.  Missionaries are just there to teach.  The members are there to find people to teach. A good talk is "Find the Lambs, Feed the Sheep" by President Hinckley.
Well i am ok I love it here still its just cold and that is never fun but whatever ill live.Well love you all

Hello Mom and Dad,
Well actually it is not out of the ordinary in this mission to stay for this long in an area there has been longer. But yes it is pretty difficult because i have been getting frustrated with the work here but now I am better. Actually this week we got a new Bishop and he is wanting to help us out a lot so missionary work will start going good here again. I am excited to work with him.  Its just been difficult the past few weeks because we are not teaching really anyone right now and so yes all we do is tract. Although we have had some success we have had three less actives start coming back to church and are very solid.  That has been the best thing here so far. Well its good to here that Eric is back and well and that the family is doing good. Oh and we are trying to figure out a place that we can skype for Christmas we already had a lot people say we can we just trying to decide where. And also I wasn't able to ask brother Furness but I will the next time I see him. Well thanks for the email.  Love you all and hope you have a great week.

Hi Mom and Dad,
So I am staying in warren for at least another six weeks. I was kind of hoping to get transferred but oh well.. Our area has just died these last two weeks. We lost all of our investigators and no one wants to talk to us so we really just tract all the time. But I'm doing good.  I just keep on working and hoping something will happen. Its great to here that Eric is back in the states.  I hope that he isn't freezing in Indiana haha. I hope that Tony is doing good too- that doesn't sound like a very fun thanksgiving to me. And i really hope Lisa isn't freaking out.. That's great that the house is all decked out in Christmas stuff.  It doesn't seem like Christmas here at all. The past few days have just been raining and cloudy.. Haven't seen the sun for a while so that gets a little depressing at times. I would much rather have it snow than rain.  I hate being wet, but whatever. I hope Dad is safe and I always do pray for him that he will be safe. I got the box you sent me and thank you i need all of it and it will be used well in the next few months. Well i don't have much else to say so I hope you have a good week and I love you all. Oh and elder Stone is getting transferred so I will have a new companion next week. Well love you all again

Hi Mom and Dad,
This week has been good even though no one wanted to talk with us because of the holiday. We were just doing a bunch of tracting and that was about it. We are still working with our one investigator and he is doing good. He is starting to progress a lot and hopefully he will be baptized. So transfers are coming up in about a week and a half so just in case you should probably not send anything else until I know for sure if I am staying here again. It's been really warm here the past week so i haven't had to try out any of the thermals, I will tell you when i use them. We had a pretty fun thanksgiving this week we ate at two members homes, the Busch's (which used to live in cedar and sister Busch taught at Fiddlers Canyon but it was her student teaching there) and one of the sisters in the ward, sister Shuster's. It was a good day I enjoyed it a lot and was very full. Also we had a turkey bowl and that was pretty fun a well. Sounded like you and Dad had a fun thanksgiving at Denny's haha. Well next year hopefully everyone will be there haha.

Its pretty sad to hear about Jordan he was turning his life around and then this happened. I hope his mom and dad will be ok. I will be praying for them and I hope everyone is comforting them right now. Its good to know that he is in a better place now. Jordan was always a good kid, and I enjoyed all those years that I was able to be his friend, I love him and his family and i will never forget those experiences that i was able to have with him. I hope Dayton will be ok as well. Its always sad to see this but i know now and i have always known that God loves him and his family and he is watching over them right now, His plan was created all out of love and he cares for them so much.

Oh dad and your words of council, they are great and i do always try to think about them and do them. Although i am pretty sure that i have heard the mini life story many times but thank you. I have been enjoying my mission so much so far and I know that i will be able to see blessings come soon.   I have seen them already and it's helped me a lot through days that are not very exciting. I know that this is where i need to be and i am glad that I had you and mom get me out here. I have seen so many blessings come into my life and I know there are more to come. I love both of you and thank you for your great examples. Now you have to get Jesse out here and you will be done haha. Then you can prepare for you and mom to serve a mission. I love you all and hope you have a great week.

P.S.- I was given great new this past week... Michigan Beat Ohio State!!!! (Its a Blessing in disguise)

Hi Mom and Dad,
My week was very good and very cold until about Friday then it warmed up a little but not really. We have some new investigators but not too much to tell about them.  We are just working with them and starting to really teach them next week. The weather here like i said is very cold and bitter.  It's going to be a long winter. Hopefully we have a lot of people to teach. HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!! It's great to hear that you had a good 17 years. I didn't know that Alexa and Jake moved.  But, of course, that's because she doesn't email me haha just kidding that's really cool to hear. Of course lexa already has her house decked out in Christmas stuff, she loves to decorate. Oh and i remembered that you were having Thanksgiving yesterday but I was fine I can deal with it ha. Its great to hear that Eric will be back for Christmas, of course he is going snowboarding right when he gets home. I want to snowboard as well, but I cant do that haha. The Garden House is always great, I hope that you enjoy it. Sounds like it will be a good day even though dad has to work. Sadly we will not be watching football but that is okay it's not college so i will live if i don't see it haha. Thats great to hear about Weston.  I bet he is way excited to leave.  I definately remember that feeling haha. If you want to send some candy that would be cool haha but other than that, I will be fine maybe just some small thin gloves that can fit under my bigger gloves. Thank you so much that will be very much appreciated. Oh and also if you can could you put some money into my account I am a little low.. Thank You! Well I love you all I will have a great Thanksgiving and I hope that you will too. Love you all and have a great week.

Hi Mom and Dad,
I have been doing great out here in warren. It has been a little cold here and we got to see some snow a few days ago but not to exciting other then that. We have been very busy and very happy as well its pretty weird how fast time flys out here. We are already half way through the transfer its crazy but I love it, I am not to worried about two years haha. Oh and mom there is a member that lives here that served in the riverside mission, he served around wildomar and a bunch of other places its pretty cool his name is Brother Furness, he is in the elders quorum presidency. Oh so last Monday Elder Trammell told me that he got an email from one of his good friends back in pocatello and he told us that they were related to our family. Their names are Paul and Colette Ottis, I personally don't know them but I bet dad would so i thought that was pretty cool. Well since it has been getting cold our bike riding has slowed down a lot. Its not fun riding when there is snow and you cant feel your hands or feet. But we did ride our bikes a few times this week but it stopped after the snow fell. Oh and it gets so dark here at like 6:00 so tracting at night is not very fun at all. But sadly no mom we don't get anymore miles they expect us to suffer through it. Which I guess I can do it I just don't really want to do it. That's great that you are having the family over for a early thanksgiving, it sounds like it will be fun. That is great that you enjoyed stake conference this week sounds like it was a good one. Well me and elder stone learn a lot from each other and from those we teach. It is a great learning experience to be out here and I love it so far. There are so many people in this area that are really suffering from the economy and its great to talk to them about Christ and how our message can help them through this time. It is great to watch someone change their entire life a come unto Christ. Well its a sad day that i couldn't hear the great and inspiring words of dad but i think i can make it a week without them haha. I love you all and hope you have a great week.
Love,
Elder Ryan Furtney
Hi Mom and "The Dad",
Its great to hear from both of you and I have been doing great this past week. We are seeing a lot of success from our diligence and our bishop is becoming more missionary minded which helps us out a lot. I am enjoying having Elder Stone as my companion and I am learning a lot from him. It was too bad taking over an area and it was a growing experience. We still have not had any snow here, actually the past few days have been surprisingly warm but its going to be gone soon. We have been biking a lot to try to save miles and enjoy the weather. I got the thermals you sent me and I'll look for the next box as well. Oh and I am sorry i am bad at writing back ill try to be better it just takes so long haha. But i will write as well so you can hear from me more then once a week, Because i know that you all love hearing about wonderful Warren haha. That's great you had a good Halloween. Ours was just boring missionary meetings which i could barely stay awake in. But I do want to see these pictures they sound pretty funny. Thanksgiving sounds kind of boring but at least you don't need to worry about the cooking and everything. We will probably just be at members houses all day we cant go out and teach on thanksgiving. But it should be a good day I am excited for it. Yes we have been tracting so much these past few weeks but we have one of our most solid investigators that came from tracting and she would have gone to church but she was very sick. The family that we have been teaching has been kind of hard because they don't have a lot of desire to keep learning, but we are trying to work with them and trying to get them to church. We are also teaching a guy that has had three strokes and he is so humble it is amazing. He was able to come to church and we hope that he can be baptized by the end of this month or by the first of December. The work is going great here there has been tons of success from working with our less active members and we will have a baptism this transfer. Well that has been our week and Its been so great for me, I have learned so much. Well I love all of you and thank you for all the support you give me.
Love your son,
Elder Ryan Furtney

October 31st

Hey Mom and Dad,
I am doing so great here in cold Ohio haha. The temperatures have dropped a lot but no snow just a lot of frost which is not fun when you tract. Yep so Elder Trammell got transferred but he is still really close to where I am.  He is in Tallmage, Ohio. He is a zone leader. I will probably see him a lot more before he leaves so it's all good haha. So my new companion's name is Elder Stone, he is from Spanish Fork, Utah and has been on his mission for about 16 months. He was serving in Perryburg, Ohio which is by Toledo its just right outside of that city. He is a great missionary and he knows what he is doing so I have been learning a lot still. So I will look for the thermals.  I hope they work because it is getting cold here. I heard about some storm over in the far eastern states but all we got was a little bit of freezing cold rain nothing to exciting but it kills my knuckles when I knock on a door - it's so cold. That's so cool to hear that Sheen is about to leave. He is going to love it on his mission, it's so amazing. That's cool that you are getting everybody indexing out there. All we focus on around here is missionary work and bringing back less active members... Which is not bad at all.  I cannot complain because it helps us out a lot. So this week Elder Stone and I talked in sacrament meeting and I am just going to say it's hard to prepare a talk without using the internet.. but of course i didn't even follow my notes and just let the spirit talk for me. It worked pretty well, but I was a little nervous. Actually I am not the senior companion because Elder Stone is the district leader so he is senior but that is okay with me haha. Maybe some other time I will get there but for now junior is just fine haha. Well it was a great week.  We had tons of stuff to do and we have even more for next week so I'll be very tired which is good because I love a great nights rest haha. Well is there anything new going on with the family? Anything happening over there in that distant land of what we call Utah? Well I love you all and I will talk to you in a week.
Love your Son!!
