Hi Mom,
Ohio has been amazing so far. I was only in Cleveland for about a day. It was very humid in Cleveland but not where I'm at its only slightly humid. Kirtland was so amazing, we had a tour of the temple and Karl Anderson gave us some pretty amazing experiences. Karl Anderson is the Church's main historian for Kirtland and he wrote a couple of books about Kirtland. He was amazing though and there was such a strong spirit in there, it was like being in all the other temples. But they brought us up to Joseph Smith's office where he recieved a lot of the revelations in D&C and the feeling of being in a room where God and Jesus Christ were is just crazy. The spirit was so strong in there and I loved it. Then after the temple we went to the whitney store and that was so cool as well. The School of the Prophets was so cool I loved the entire experience and I recommend it. I cant download my pictures today I left my camera at my apartment but I will do it next week. My compaions name is Elder Trammell and he is from Idaho. We have tracted alot but not much comes from it here. We have had about 14 lessons in the 5 days I have been here so its been great so far. Its good to here about Eric I hope he is doing well and hope there are more updates from him. Well I need to write a letter to my mission pres before my time runs out but I love you all and hope you have a good week.
Love Elder Furtney
Lyss could you pass this one along please?
ReplyDeleteHey Ryan,
Sounds like your having a great time there. I'm glad your doing so well. The humidity is killer though, hopefully its cooling down. I was only about 5 hours from Cleveland where I was training and I didn't like it at all. Have you seen the death stalker flying beast of doom? It is this massive flying insect with pincers and a wingspan of about 12 inches. I spent about ..... days in camp ..... in Kuwait. It is really bad there; the sand is constantly blowing everywhere, it is about 130 degrees everyday, and the wind makes it hotter rather than cooler (imagine getting a blow dryer to the face). I've made it to Iraq now though, it is much better. Its only about 10 degrees hotter than St. George and we haven't had anything crazy happen yet. All in All its pretty nice here. I bought a should holster made of camel leather today for my M9. I also bought a shemagh to bring home and the nice iraqi told my friend if i wore it outside i would get shot. He didn't bother telling me that though hahah, its a good thing I brought my own that isn't a religious color.
Love,
Eric
Ryan, just wanted to say hi. I have read your recent e-mails with great interest. You sound as though mission life is and will continue to agree with you. Getting off to a good start is important for a successful mission. It also helps with the attitude. Lissa said I was doing this all wrong. I was writing as though you were going to see this...being a blog and all. Oh well, she says she will post this and the letter from Eric and paste it to where you can access it. Anyway, we ordained little Joco to a priest today. Seems like just yesterday that we did the same for you. Missionary work is the greatest Ryan. I hope you remember how I used to talk about my mission experiences to you and Jesse. I treasure every moment, and only wish that I had taken even more opportunities to grow. But I did ok. Just remember to keep the mission rules completely. They are designed to protect you and give you a chance to get the very most from your experience in the Lord's work. Stay well, you've heard enough preaching from me to last a life time, so I'll close with a wish that you will be well until the next time we talk. I love you. dad
ReplyDeleteHey Ryan,
ReplyDeleteJust recently talked to Grandma and decided to look you up on FB. from there I found this blog. Elder Trammell and his family are long time friends of ours. I was excited to see that we have a friend in common. Your cousin Paul and I live in Pocatello and our two sons Jed and Bryan are attending ISU here. Jed is 26 and Bryan will be 22 in February. Adam Trammell was Bryan's first best friend. So glad to hear of all your success. We are proud of your example to your family and extended family. Looking forward to knowing you better.
Love, Colette & Paul Otto
Hi Colette,
ReplyDeleteIts great to hear from you Elder Trammell called me one day and was all excited and said he knew my cousins really well. Sadly I didn't know that you lived in Idaho and i think i may have only heard your names a few times, but i would love to get to know all of you better then I do now. Its great to know that there are other members on my dads side of the family I didn't even know that there were any.
