Hey Dad,
Good to hear from you. I enjoy the little fat jokes; they are always so great to hear... Haha. Well what I have learned from leadership so far is that I really can't rely on myself. I have started to rely more on the Spirit and not my own talents. Also follow-up is extremely important and has helped me and this district improve so much. And, of course, goals would be the last one. Setting goals is so important and needed in missionary work and also in life. Without goals both the areas in this district were lacking in teaching and finding. However, as soon as we started setting goals, both the areas improved so much. One thing that i have also learned is that the best way to be a leader is to follow and live just as the the Savior lived. He is our
exemplar and our perfect leader. So I study and apply his teachings and his example into my missionary work and that is when I begin to improve the most. Our president has been focusing a lot on becoming converted rather than just having a testimony. He has truly helped me a lot by doing this. I thought a lot about what he said and I am following his council by studying the Christlike attributes and applying them. I have truly learned that the book, Preach my Gospel is an inspired book and helps all members not just missionaries. You should probably start using that in FHE with Jesse -- just saying. I wish that I really started to study it before I came out but you know me, I just thought i knew everything. Well, it's great to hear from you and everything going on in the world of the family. I have been doing great and loving my service these days. I may not have had as much success as I was wanting but I know that I can't become discouraged and I know I will be able to see success soon. I am loving every day out here and working hard... And I can't wait to sleep in once I get home haha just kidding... Well love you and thank you for all you do.
Love ,
Elder Ryan Furtney
"Thou art called to labor in my vineyard, and to build up my church, and to bring forth Zion, that it may rejoice upon the hills and flourish. Behold, verily, verily, I say unto thee, thou art not called to go into the eastern countries, but thou art called to go to the Ohio. And inasmuch as my people shall assemble themselves at the Ohio, I have kept in store a blessing such as is not known among the children of men, and it shall be poured forth upon their heads. And from thence men shall go forth into all nations. Wherefore, go forth, crying with a loud voice saying: The kingdom of heavn is at hand: crying: Hosanna! Blessed be the name of the Most High God. Go forth baptizing with water, preparing the way before my face for the time of my coming." --Doctrine and Covenants 39: 13-15, 19-20

Hi Mom and Dad,
So I am doing great out here... Also I will be staying another 6
weeks here in Bryan. So if you want to mail anything it will make it
to me. (hint hint) haha. Well so far this spring we have had very
little rain. It's kinda strange -- everything is starting to turn brown...I feel like I'm back in Cedar and there is no rain.
Ya i bet it is very difficult for Eric...now that he is in Paris, I feel no pain for him haha. So I really can't believe that school is already done -- it's crazy. Jesse is going to be
out on his mission so soon haha. Hopefully he knows that by now... TIME
FLYS BUDDY!!! I am already almost at my year mark so it definitely flys
by. Well I will write Grandma for sure. I never got her email so thank
you. I will do that now. Well, thank you for all the support that you
have given me and I love you all. Thank you so much.

Hey Mom and Dad,
I am doing wonderful and enjoying Bryan, Ohio pretty well. I am still trying
to figure out what I am doing in my new assignment (district leader) but I am starting to
get it down. We have 3 sets of Elders including us. It's a pretty small district
but its fun that is for sure.
That's great to hear that Carmen's baptism went well. I bet she was very
excited. I wish i could have been there. So, yes it is Mother's Day this next weekend so I don't really know when I will be calling but just be ready! It will probably only be about 40 minutes
this time, but it will still be great to talk to you all again and see
how everyone is doing. Oh yes, we are able to Skype again-- so I'll see
you YAY! I know both you and Dad are going to be great teachers. Hope
you enjoy the new calling.
Also that is great to hear about Josh that is pretty exciting... How
is everyone else doing like Daniel and Jordan... They should be
getting ready soon right?
Well, love you all.. and all is well here in Ohio -- not too much new but
it's going great. I can't wait to see you and hope you have a great week
and a great Mothers Day!

Hi Mom and Dad,
I am doing wonderful and loving the somewhat warmer weather... it is
definitely spring here because there is a ton of rain and you can never
predict the weather. I am very excited for Carmen. I know that she
is excited for her baptism and I hope it is a great day for her. I wish i could be there
to see it. That is good that Jesse got a job... dishwashing isn't that
bad...it's just the same thing over and over again haha but i loved
that job and hope he does too.
Here in Ohio things are going great. We are still teaching and still
looking for new investigators.. Also, one cool thing that we did this
weekend was help our Elders Quorom President at his job. He is in
charge of all the LDS graineries in the eastern states and
Texas. There are about six in all. One of them is in our area so we went
down to kill the bugs in the silos. We were up about 135
feet on top of the silo and dropped thousands of little pellets into the
grain... now the interesting part is the pellets are a small form of what the Germans used to gas the Jews with so yes i was using a tool of
destruction on little insects. Haha. Oh, and the pellets, of course, were
made in Germany... Yep I laughed pretty hard. It was really fun and I got to learn a lot about the LDS Graineries. So we had a really cool week and now its starting to warm up, so now we are going to start biking. It's good to hear that Sheen is doing well and i
hope that he gets better soon so he can get back out into the field.
Well I am glad you are both back to the temple each week. It is a
great blessing to have and I miss it so much. It is one of the first
things I want to do when I get back home because it's hard not being
able to go at all here. Well I love you all and hope that you are
doing great. Have a great week in the great land of UTAH...

Hi Dad,
I enjoyed the email and the somewhat of a poem about me in Ohio. It
was very interesting and made me laugh. Haha. I would have to agree
that it was one of your better works. So far i have learned a ton as a District Leader and
it is a great opportunity to lead and grow. Thank you for your support Dad and I am so grateful for everything you do for me. I am so grateful
for you. I can't believe that you're already done with serving on the high council
in YSA. It seems like yesterday that you got called there. Now you're done--no
way... Haha. Well just give it a few months and they will have another
assignment for you. Well I hope that you don't get too sad once the
truck is gone... I'm pretty sure that you will be fine but it's going to
be really weird when I get home and it's not there anymore.
Thank you again and love you!
